Lithological Certainties
Mineral poetic through an inter-agent collaboration in electronic arts devices
Lithological Certainties is a research that leads to a series of art works that questions the relationship between minerals and man, searching for a mineral poetic through an inter-agent collaboration in electronic arts devices. Exploring the mineral materiality from its diverse edges: physical, philosophical, symbolic, poetic, territorial, historical, artistic and utilitarian. Inquiring every relationship that this foundational element, the rock, maintains with man. Chasing to balance the asymmetric binominal man/nature, man/mineral and tracing a possible empathic horizontality towards the organic and non-organic objects that surround us.
In Choreographic Erosion a natural rock is intervened by another rock in movement, generating an erosion by rubbing. During the time they are transforming one to the other leaving dust around, filing the asperities, drawing lines. Being three devices, the sound as a whole generates a geological dialogue, the voice of the rock in the phase of human intervention and the passage of time.
In Osseous Collaboration, minerals cooperate for the same purpose. This shows how a small point of contact between the rocks allows them to connect and generate sounds mediated by minerals. This device generates frequencies with the assistance of minerals as part of the circuit. From the conjugation of combinations of waves of diverse origins complex and repetitive rhythms are produced, generally unpredictable.
Paloma Marques
Paloma Marquez is an artist and researcher, she grew up in the foothills of the Andes in Argentina. She has a Degree in Sound and Audiovisuals, and is working on her thesis for the Master of Electronic Arts at the UNTreF. In her research she questions the relationship and analogies that exist between rocks and man, from Electronic Arts, philosophy, poetry and geology, seeking for a mineral poetic, and the revaluation of the material in a relationship of collaboration and respect. Her paintings and installations were exhibited in different art spaces in Argentina, US and Europe.
