Sistemas Materiales is an interdisciplinary research group created in 2018, by the experimental designer Heidi Jalkh and Dr. in Biological Sciences Leonardo Majul. The group develops projects at the intersection between science, design and craft, seeking to explore new strategies and disruptive processes for the development of unconventional alternatives for materials and manufacturing methods.

The Trazos Biomateriales exhibition, brings together projects and ideas that emerge from the integration of biological systems in design to create unconventional alternatives of materiality from, with and for Nature.
The exhibited works encourage the creation of regenerative materials and systems that produce a positive impact on our planet. They establish a framework for reflection on the use of resources that leads us to question and rethink how we design, produce, consume. This collaboration between scientific and design disciplines seeks a paradigm shift: doing from a more biological, organic, and generative approach.
The Trazos Biomateriales exhibition features a total of 45 projects, including 11 never-before-seen projects from the Sistemas Materiales Group, a site-specific installation (Archivo Biomaterial) featuring 28 Argentine and Latin American groups and individuals who are recognized leaders in the regional biomaterials scene, and 6 projects that were part of the international Biodesign Challenge competition, carried out by students of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, under the guidance and coordination of Material Systems.
