Tucker Nickman’s artistic practice evolves through combinations of physical and digital states of being…

… which in their aggregate, refine the patterns and scales of our worlds into shards of virtually reimagined, past, present and future scenarios, through which the artist and environments’ timescales interpolate, while new methods of creation collaboration and cohabitation emerge. They weave threads between scoby bioplastics with light, gas temperature sensors and compost to compose with the environment and hear the chemical and biological process of life and decomposition. They reproduce irreproducible artifacts from their environment digitally, by petrifying their momentary states photogrammetrically, or finding universal patterns through which the complexity of our world can be understood. Their mission is to continue to explore the expanses of the mind, body, and soul along with physical, digital and metaphysical realms and alternate spacetimes.

They hope that by cataloguing and digitizing natural, physical assets, that we can preserve these momentary sculptural fragments in deep time, imagining new biomorphic evolution, so as to know where we’re going, where we’ve been, and to challenge capitalist and colonialist understandings of property, value, and production, to transmute what has been into what can be, through speculative fiction.

Future projects include a decentralized interplanetary community for the generation of creative ideas and prosperity in new innovative digital spaces for the fruition of artistic practices and emergent economies that can scale to the real world. To break away from traditional institutions and move towards artist/ community governed spaces. By permuting undefined barriers they explore the new potentials of creation and existence.

Tucker Nickman

They are a generative multi-media artist, whose work has focused on deep time, biology, geology and technology. They graduated from the Berlin State Ballet School in 2018, with a BA in Stage Dance, with over ten years of dance and movement experience, and then attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam until 2019. They are currently based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and have been working on archiving the surrounding desert through images, footage, and audio; partially preserving moments in deep time, peering through multiple lenses to learn more about our ecosystem, symbiogenesis, the universe and ourselves.
