Bio Summit Governance Exercise
Each year at the Bio Summit we organize a collaborative activity where participants engage in an aspect of crystallizing the Community Bio Movement. At Bio Summit 1.0 we posed the question, “Are We a Movement?,” and explored movement dynamics; at Bio Summit 2.0 we defined our values and Statement of Shared Purpose; at Bio Summit 3.0 we clarified our ethics and norms.
This year, as well as at Bio Summit 4.0, we are exploring the theme of Governance and Structure. For this exercise, on our fifth annual gathering, we are applying a lens of “Science Activism” to answer these questions:
How should we organize ourselves to realize our Shared Purpose? What kind of structures should we create? How can we hold ourselves accountable to our norms? In this exercise, participants can use the four Google documents below to work both synchronously, in groups and pairs, and asynchronously to answer key prompts that will generate ideas for how we might govern and structure our global movement.
Each Google doc links to a different prompt where participants can work on each respective worksheet.
Have fun, be creative, and contribute your ideas!
