Yeastograms

What:

Yeastograms are living pictures carved with UV light into yeast cultures. In the workshop participants will learn how to grow and to put these organisms into shape along artistic and aesthetic decisions,using amateur-biological techniques.

What to bring:

  • Agar Agar

  • , sugar,

  • food-color,

  • potatoes,

  • marmalade jars, or lab bottles,

  • pressure cooker, or just a pot,

  • 410 nm high power UV leds with optics, or 410 nm UV bulbs,

  • computer/or cell phone,

  • if UV lights are available a printer and transparent foil is needed, alternately a black Edding marker can be used, too,

  • Polystyrene petri dishes 9cm diameter
